The Facebook relationship status can spark a lot of controversy. Are you guilty of any of these status errors? If so, fix them.
"In a complicated relationship"
Unless you are twelve years old and want your asexual bestie to be your Facebook lover, think again. Otherwise, you are likely to either offend your other half or make every Facebook user who looks at your page confused and angry.
Single
Don't worry. Nobody cares if you are single or taken. Just try not to fiddle with the privacy settings so you announce to everyone you know that you are STILL VERY VERY SINGLE.
Recent singletons will also face either huge relief or mortification with their new statuses. Try to make sure you don't pop up on all your friends' homefeeds as a new loner.
In a relationship with...
Congratulations! You are now able to announce to everyone in cyberspace that you are no longer alone. However, take heed my friends, as you are now dicing with death by public snooping. You will both be stalked to within an inch of your lives by friends and family from both sides.
You also now have to deal with the threat of a breakup and changing that winning status back to 'single.'
My advice would be to stick to nothing. No one needs the added stress in their lives. Anyone who needs to know you are in a relationship already knows. If they don't, they clearly aren't very close to either of you anyway.
Married to...
Perfectly allowed if we're talking about your Mom's Facebook. If you were a tween when Facebook was created, you're probably too young to be getting married. But if you have just gotten engaged, keep it low key. You don't need friends of friends knowing you're hitched before your own immediate family do.
The ironic BFF marriage is so last decade.
In an open relationship
If anyone can explain what the fuck this means, congratulations. Otherwise, make up your mind - are you in or are you out? We've all seen Friends With Benefits...
