Friends are tricky, especially old friends. Whereas once you bonded over Barbies and action men, you now have nothing but fond memories and huge regrets lingering overhead. It can be hard to cut the ties and leave them behind, in fact, it's near damn impossible to do so without a wave of repercussion hitting you in the back. Worst of all, sometimes you may not even be aware of just how much you hate them. Not to worry, here are some signs;
1) Their Voice Now Sounds Like Nails On A Blackboard
You know when you really, really hate someone? Like REALLY? Their voice makes you cringe on the inside and makes your blood boil, or maybe that's just me...If you can't listen to them without wanting to stick a sock in their mouth and then push them out the window, then it's probably a pretty bad sign. Stick in your earphones before someone sticks you in prison.
2) You Never, Ever Laugh At Their Jokes
Just not funny? Or are you just not able to appreciate their terrible humour? Either their amazing sense of humour is lost on you, or you fucking hate their guts. If you're finding them about as funny as a sudden bout of diarrhea, then perhaps wedge some time and space between the two of you. Lols? Not so much.
3) They Never Compliment You, But Constantly Demand Some Themselves
How do you look? Fine. But as for them? Utterly amazing. Girls in particular, are pretty damn awful at doing this. Making someone else feel utterly shit, so that they can swoop in and feel fantastic themselves. It's the equivalent of standing beside a two when you're a ten. Mean. Just plain mean. Don't be someones two.
4) They Put You Down For Their Own Enjoyment
This is the red flag. This is a surefire sign that you need to get out, tell them to take a running jump, leave them. If you come away from them feeling drained, pissed off, down in the dumps and just generally not good about yourself, then have some sense and stand up for yourself or, failing that, expel your innermost thoughts and hatred and see what you get back. Whatever works.
5) You Don't Confide In Them Anymore
Whereas once, they knew everything about you and your life, they now, well, don't. Everything you tell them seems to be kept aside as ammunition, something to throw in your face at some later date. some form of blackmail or revenge. So instead, you choose to tell them nothing. Which, when you think about it, kind of defeats the purpose of being a friend, does it not?
6) You Make Any And Every Excuse Not To Be With Them
Well, why would you want to be friends with someone who not only makes you feel like shit about yourself on a regular basis, someone you can't talk to or trust and who, above all, who isn't a friend any more? Seeing and spending time with friends is one of lifes best things and so, to not want to do that with someone, pretty much tells you all you need to know about your so called friend. They're no friend of yours.
7) You Bitch About Them To Pretty Much Everyone
After spending some or indeed any time around them, you feel the need to vent about it to anyone with two ears and twenty minutes to spare. It's time to wake up and smell the bitterness I reckon. They're supposed to be there for you to bitch to and not about. Pack up and move on. It's the best thing you can do.
