Summer Fashion 2015: The Essential Checklist

Summer is fast approaching and that means one thing to us; an excuse to treat ourselves to some new clothes. Whether you're going on holiday, to a festival or just chilling at home, here are some new fun trends that will keep you going until your knitted wears come out again. These are our summer 2015 essentials.

1) The 70's is back.

Cast yourselves back to the decade that produced some of the best music icons; start behaving badly like Donna in a classic leather jacket and stomp around in Joan Jett-style platform ankle boots with your quintessential hippy dress and you're bang on trend for summer! 70's inspired flares are the shape of the season so make it like Poppy and inject some serious sass into your look. The tie-dye look is also something that will have you feeling very 70's. Luminous, flamboyant colours swirl together under the sun to create that perfect, laid-back feel. Count me in. Hippy, hippy shake.

2) Get that festival feel.

Suede was everywhere on the Spring-Summer catwalks and thankfully the trend has filtered down to the high street just in time for summer. Suede is definitely one of those free spirit trends and if you want to release your inner hippy and combine it with even more trends, then Misguided have some great affordable faux suede fringe jackets that'll have you festival ready in no time at all.

Coachella is where to spot the trends that will dominate festival fields this summer. While many of the style staples perennially stay the same - denim cut-offs, flat ankle boots and bohemian floral dresses - expect to see a longer length of short, thanks to Kendall Jenner in her knee-length pair, while cropped tops still reign supreme for another summer.

3) Combine denim and lace.

Denim and lace are this season’s dreamy duo. Work a fresh, free-spirited blue and white vibe with crochet dresses to make summer dressing a breeze. Distressed denim is the perfect excuse to give off casual-cool vibes, you can choose whether you prefer a couple of subtle slashes at the knee or an overload of grungy, eye-catching tears. Denim skirts are also a timeless piece that will get you through any summer. Pair them with a vintage lace top and you're set.

4) Don’t forget those accessories.

You’re a budget flight away from sun, sand and the inevitable ‘sorry-not-so-sorry’ holiday spam, so the last thing you've organised are your accessories. This season's hottest accessory to date is the infamous jelly sandal. Now, they may not be everyone's cup of tea but hey, why not give them a shot? You can wear them with tights, socks and skinny jeans. If you're a fashion experimenter, wearing jelly sandals with sharp contrasting socks will make you stand out from the crowd, or if you're more into the faded look, black ones also look great with grey skinny jeans.

Next up, a pair of great shades. So set your sights on sunglasses with enough personality to punch up any outfit — think bright mirrored lenses, floral-embellished frames, and round styles to complement this season's biggest retro trends. Pop-art accessories are also a great, quirky way to liven up your outfit. Think bright, fun, fruit influenced and Katy Perry and you're on the right track.

5) All white Outfits.

One of the best outfit choices for summer is the easy breezy, all-white outfit. Perfect for summer, an all-white outfit exudes that simple summertime vibe, and makes it easy to go from a BBQ to a night out on the town. Now, you'll find that one of the trickiest parts of wearing white is keeping it all clean. You'll probably want to stay away from chilli dogs and spaghetti when you're floating around in all-white dresses and tops, but sometimes an accident is just hard to avoid. At least you'll be looking fabulous, right?

6) Balayage is still a go to hair look.

The Balayage is the most popular hair colouring request in hair salons these days. The go-to for modern, chic hair, balayage creates depth and dimension and leaves you with a sun kissed finish that's perfect for summer. Another great thing about balayage is the fact you don’t have to go to the salon every few weeks for touch ups because it doesn’t have defined sections like foils, so it doesn’t show the regrowth.

Remember, it's supposed to look natural, so you'll probably only go 2-3 shades lighter than your natural colour. Because the colour is painted on the hair vertically, you won't get that dreaded line as the colour grows out, so it's win win all round!

7) Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair…

It wouldn't be summer if there wasn't a huge increase in the number of girls donning floral head wreaths. Take some inspiration from our fave bohemian girl Vanessa Hudgens. If you're not into the flowers in your hair look, another great summer trend is wearing your hair in a pretty braid that will never go out of style. There are so many different braids to choose from—the milkmaid, the fishtail, the man braid—you'll never get bored of the look. Plaits away everyone!

Now you're all up to date on the latest summer trends, so go forth and style it out. Happy summer!
