Trying to take your mind off the winter blues? Exams and bitter weather stressing you out? Don't you wish you could just escape away into a sunny beach paradise with all your friends: good drinks, nice beaches and good times? Some of the best experiences in college are trips away with your friends. Why not organise next summer's holiday now? It will be something awesome to look forward to as you trudge through the wet and miserable weather to those exams or 9am lecture. After hours of searching for the perfect beach and sun holiday locations, here are the top five destinations for the best sun holiday this summer.
1. Corfu: Kavos
A gorgeous seaside village which offers amazing options for relaxing and letting loose. One of the most popular clubs Atlantis, which is situated right on the beach, is famous for the staying open later than most although you won't be hard pressed for a great night out here. They host bonfire parties on the beach, foam parties, paint parties and full moon parties throughout the summer. You can go on a boat trip with Kavos Cruises, hang out with great DJs and company for a day. There's 8 km of beach surrounding the island, and the watersports here are second to none. If you fancy something calmer, to de-stress from all the college, there’s a quiet 'secret' beach about 2km away near Asprokavos. Here just you and a very nice man who'll rents out deckchairs and sell you watermelons when you’re hungry. Sounds like paradise to me.
2. Crete: Hersonissos & Malia
Situated quite close to one another, about 14 km apart, Hersonissos and Malia both offer exquisite sandy beaches, lots of shops, water parks, go-carting, aquariums and museums - as well as epic nightlife scene. Half an hour’s drive west from Hersonissos is the city of Heraklion, with its Archaeological Museum and the Minoan Palace of Knossos - for any archaeological nerds. Food and drink is quite cheap and the summer season belongs to college students letting loose. Taxis are on the cheap side as well. Why not head out and explore the area like a local? If you're into hiking Europe's deepest gorge, the Samaria gorge, is just around the corner. Running for 18 kilometres, it’s a serious five- to six-hour trek that’s not for the unfit or faint-hearted - but worth the effort when you see the view. Or relax on the beach with cocktails, whatever you're into.
3. Majorca: Magaluf
Famously known as the nightclubbing capital of Majorca. If you're looking for a holiday with endless sunshine, sandy beaches, exotic cocktails, an electric atmosphere and a heated nightlife, then this is most definitely the place for you. If you're after a quiet and relaxing holiday then maybe look elsewhere. The Punta Balena strip and BCM square is the most popular hotspot for night time activities. The area is full of lively bars filled with young people from across Europe. . BCM is the biggest nightclub in Magaluf and is a must for the ones who are looking for a great clubbing experience. The beaches in Magaluf are famously beautiful, they are cleaned daily and the water is crystal clear. If you're up early the next day after a great night out head out and try an excursion. : . If you're up for a shopping trip Palma city centre is a 20min bus trip away and costs around €3. This place is all go go go, are you up for it?
4. Zakynthos: Laganas
Laganas is the biggest and liveliest resort in Zante. Party all night along the strip and when you have finished partying, party some more with great bars and clubs hosting paint/foam/neon parties. Check out Plus Club or Rescue, Greece’s biggest nightspot outside Athens, where you’ll find packed dancefloors and turbo-charged sound systems. And if you’re still standing when the lights come on, there are after parties on the beach until the sun comes up. If you want a break from partying then there are plenty of things to do in Laganas and surrounding area. You can go scuba diving, or get a motor boat out for the day and go to Turtle Island (you can swim with the turtles!), go fishing, or check out any of the three water parks in Zante. Relax and top up your tan on the beach or by the pool. Go for guided jeep safari or make you own jeep safari up. There's plenty to offer, why haven't you booked it yet?
5. Ibiza: San Antonio
The Bay of San Antonio is famed for being one of the most beautiful in the Mediterranean. Enjoy panoramic views out to the islands and the amazing sunsets to be seen all year round. By day, you are never far from a beach and at night there's plenty to do and see. On the spacious terraces of the cafes & bars, many have live shows & music until midnight when everyone continues the party inside or move on to the famous big clubs. San Antonio has a wild nightlife, with streets filled with bars and clubs. The clubs in Eden and esParadis, both hold daily parties with some of the biggest international DJs. Ibiza Rocks Hotel holds gigs every Wednesday night in the summer, with free after-parties at esParadis. San Antonio is also home to the sunset strip with Cafe Del Mar, Mambos and Savannas perched on the end of Ibiza with fantastic views of the Balearic sea. Water sports are also a huge aspect of holiday life in San Antonio, with banana boating kite surfing and snorkelling, plus more available. Sounds like the perfect escape...doesn't it?
