So by now a lot of you will either be back in class or this might be your last week of holidays before you get back to campus. If you're dragging your heels on your way to morning lectures, here are some things to keep your spirits up this semester:
1) Seeing Everyone Again
You're going to get to see all your college friends that you haven't seen since the end of last semester. Perfect excuse to go out and celebrate new semester, new year, and more than likely college bars will have tons of offers on to satisfy your taste for celebrations.
2) New Classes
If there was a class last semester that you found really boring, or difficult, or was scheduled at stupid o'clock in the morning, now you get a whole new range of classes and lecture courses. At the start of the semester, you're not behind on work and you have no assignments to get done straight away. You don't have any pressure or stress at the beginning and it's great.
3) New TV Shows
Spring premieres people! We've spent Christmas enjoying reruns and Christmas specials, but now we want our season regulars back. Time to cuddle up in front of the TV after a long day at the library (not) and be entertained.
4) You Have Money & Food
You might have spent the break working at your part-time job, or your grant might be about to come through. Granted, you spent a lot going out over Christmas, but between deals and not having to do a food shop for the past few weeks, you're golden. Plus, you will probably rob as much food as you can from home before you head off. Plus, thanks to societal pressures, you're probably dieting and doing exercise and 'dry January' (Yay Resolutions! Not). So you probably won't be spending a huge amount on food and drink anyway.
5) Balls & Formals
If you enjoy getting all dressed up in formal gear, second semester is the one for you. Generally this is when all the college societies host balls and will begin selling tickets for their events. Time to scrub up, suit up and get your dancing shoes on.
6) Hallmark Holidays & Fun Holidays
I'm looking at you Valentine's day, but it can be fun to celebrate/ make fun of. There are others too. April Fools Day - the day pranksters everywhere spend all year looking forward to and St. Patrick's Day, the day that everyone who loves drinking copious amounts of alcohol while wearing green and watching a marching band, look forward to.
7) Warm Weather Is Coming!
It might be cold right now in January but soon the days will lengthen and the temperatures will heat up. Which means less money spent on heating and more time spent in beer gardens, BBQs and just basically being more interested in doing things outside instead of being inside, hiding under blankets in your room with your laptop.
8) Music Festivals
One of the best things about summer weather is music festivals. A bunch of your friends camping out and listening to whatever music you're into. Muddy boots and messy portaloos or sunny days and sandy beaches. The summer is going to be epic and you're so much closer to enjoying it.
9) For Seniors, It's Your Last Semester!
This is the one you should make count. If there was something that you always wanted to do in college but never bothered because of the effort of doing anything outside of your studies, now is your time to do it. Has there been some girl/ guy that you've been fantasizing for the past four years? Now is the time to take a chance. In a few months, you won't be here anymore, you've nothing to lose. Soon it will be summer and then you're out into the real world. Enjoy college life while you can.
