EU Roaming Charges Are Gone And Here's What You Need To Know

It's official, EU roaming charges are finally gone. You'll no longer be filled with dread after looking at your phone bill post-holidays, as it'll cost you the same to send a text abroad as it is at home.

You might not be able to post to Instagram as often as you like, as phone providers data allowances will vary but it's said to be very "generous". At the moment, Vodafone is the first phone operator to announce that customers will have the exact same data allowances abroad, as they do at home.

This is a great step into the future but there are a few things you need to know. In some cases, the allowance for roaming will be much less that what we experience at home. Phone providers are allowed to cap our home data allowance that can be used when roaming in the EU.

Apparently, people with cheap or unlimited mobile plans will be affected the most. So being real here, it's going to seriously affect students traveling around Europe. European officials are saying that the 'Roam Like Home' deal is "one of the greatest and most tangible successes of the EU".
