12 Things The Internet Completely Obsessed Over In 2018

12 Things The Internet Completely Obsessed Over In 2018

2018 has been one heck of a year for many reasons. Between memes and the weather, the internet hasn't been short of something to obsess about. With the end of the year creeping around the corner, why not make a list of some of the things that stood out the most this year?

Ariana Grande, Brexit, looting lidl, and hiarious moth memes is what made 2018 different, and for that we will love and miss this crazy mess of a year.

  1. Thank u, next.

One of the biggest names of the year has to be Ariana Grande. Even though it has been one of the worst years of her personal life, the star stated herself, that is has also made it one of her most creative and successful years. With the release of the anthem, Thank u, next, and the rollercoaster that is her dating life, Ariana is definitely one of the most talked about people of 2018.

2. Yanny or Laurel?

For a good week out of 2018 the entire world was asking this question. Yanny or Laurel? What was the answer? What does it mean if I hear Laurel? Is there something wrong with me if I hear Yanny? Am I going deaf? Who is Yanny and Laurel??

3. Baby Shark.

This list can't be made without mentioning Baby Shark. This release fascinated children, and drove their parents mad. Remixes and Christmas specials have been made and it's definitely not the end of it once 2018 is over.

4. Dele Alli Hand Gesture.

Who knew this hand gesture would make the Spurs attacker a house-hold name. While celebrating a win over Newcastle the footballer shook the world by somehow flipping his hand over and forming an upside down 'ok' gesture on his face, that took us ages to try and recreate. Even 5 months later, I still don't understand.

5. The Beast From The East.

This was probably the longest holiday anyone got off work all year round. During February/March, UK and Ireland both suffered a cold patch that had the coolest name ever. What was one of the worst storms of the year, ended up being a week of trekking it to the local to enjoy a pint while discussing the ridiculousness over ' a spot of snow'.

6. Lidl Looting.

During one of the other wild weather moments Ireland had this year, Storm Emma, a group of people in Tallaght decided it would be a great time to break down the doors with an excavator. Even though it was a terrible thing to happen, Lidl definitely saw the funny side.

7. Repealing the Eigth.

This goes without saying, but this has to be one of the biggest moments in Irish news this year. From the repeal campaign, to #HomeToVote, this was one of the most heart warming moments of the year, seeing thousands of people come together to make this a  historical moment in Irish history.

8. Moth Lamp.

To lighten the mood, here is just one of the best memes that have surfaced in 2018, and thank God they did. The moth meme follows a love affair between a moth, and  his lamp.

9. Theresa May Dancing.

I don't know who came up with this idea but they sure made reading about Brexit a little bit easier. Unfortunatley, it didn't become 2018's biggest dance craze.

10. This is America - Childish Gambino.

Childish Gambino, or Donald Glover,  community star and artist had one of the biggest hits of the year, who's dancing mesmerised us all to the point that we couldn't help but make a meme out of it. This song gave us more than he could have ever imagined.

11. Spider-Racoon.

This is the kind of thing the internet goes crazy over. A racoon. Climbing up a skyscraper. Yep. It was definitely the cutest thing to happen all year.

12. Fortnite.

Fortnite became one of the biggest online video games in 2018, and it hasn't stopped yet. Kids everywhere and adults too, are glued to the TVs most days doing whatever the aim of this game is.
