Soap Operas are probably the most over the top interpretations of life on TV, the drama that rarely happens in anyone else's life is multiplied 10 fold and put in front of us for us to "relate to". From plane crashes in Emmerdale to Dirty Den returning from the grave in Eastenders it's easy to see how your college could be compared to a soap opera :P
Dublin City University - Fair City
What better place to start?! The pride of the working class and as sure as Paul Brennan is to commit adultery is Fair city to hold a special place in the people of Dublin's heart like DCU does... although admittedly, the quality of student produced by DCU is evidently better than the quality of television in Fair City
University College Dublin - Coronation Street
One of the big two and in a constant battle with Eastenders for the soap of the year and big story-lines, possibly more appealing to certain classes due to cast inclusions they can relate to, i.e. a certain washed up Boyzone star...
Trinity College Dublin - Eastenders
Corrie's arch enemy and depending on who you speak to the true king of the soaps. We're just not sure what the verdict on Danny Dyer getting into Trinity would be..not exactly your average BESS student. But alas theyve both been around so long and have history so vast..experiencing Trinity's history would be a little like counting the rings on Dot Cotton.
NUI Galway - Ros na Run
Couldn't be anything else really, craic, drama and most of the action takes place around the pub in a dialect know only to those in the area..
University College Cork - Emmerdale
Some say (citation needed) the Yorkshire accent is as difficult to understand as the Cork one....also, generally because it's as close as anyone from a Dingle background will get to any college.... ;)
Waterford Institute of Technology - The Archers
The Archers is a BBC Radio based soap opera, that goes hand in hand with always hearing a lot about Waterford's flagship college but not ever seeing a whole lot of you lads....come and say hi once in a while..
Dublin Institute of Technology - Hollyoaks
There's been so many Irish characters in it over the years that it may as well be shot in Kevin Street...
NCAD - WWE Raw
Not a soap opera in the same mould as the others, but very much scripted, colourful and often with a lot of flesh on display..yes siree, the WWE have more in common with NCAD than you'd think.
