The ISPCA Issued An Emergency Appeal To Help Save This Adorable Puppy's Life

The ISPCA issued an emergency appeal to save an eight-week old spaniel cross puppy who underwent emergency cardiac surgery this morning to save his life.

When Odhrán's mother, Beth gave birth to him and his five siblings, the carers at Donegal Animal Rehabilitation centre gradually began to introduce solid food into the diets of the young puppies, but noticed that Odhrán wasn't holding his food down and was clearly weaker than the other puppies.

Odhrán's carers became very concerned for the puppies health and following urgent assessments and x-rays, vets discovered a sac-like pouch called a diverticulum on his esophagus into which food was being diverted when Odhrán attempted to eat.

Due to the seriousness of this condition carers were advised to set out on locating a cardiac specialist to treat that condition which they believe is being caused by an abnormality in his heart called Persistent Right Aortic Arch.

Odhrán then travelled down to UCD Veterinary Hospital this morning, where doctors operated in order to save his life.

“Odhrán is such a sweet and brave little puppy, and though he is small his personality is already starting to show." ISPCA Donegal Centre Manager Denise McCausland said.

"He is so young and deserves the best chance to overcome this condition and live a happy life. Thanks to the staff at the UCD Veterinary Hospital for helping with this surgery that will hopefully save him.”

The ISPCA are appealing for funds to cover this specialised surgery that cost 2,000 euro. So far, they have raised 1,450 euro.

What a great story to end your Wednesday with.

If you can make a donation no matter how small, please help the ISPCA here.
