Every girl needs her best friend. She/he's someone who always has her back and might even be closer to her than any potential boy/girlfriend could be. Your connection runs deeper than any could imagine - unless they have a BFF as well. Here is the life code of all best friends everywhere ever;
1) Personal Space Does Not Mean Anything To You Two Anymore
You're so used to each other that you honestly don't even notice if they're dressed or not. When you sleep over, you cuddle and you don't mind sharing a cubicle in a club's bathroom. You're past it. It makes life so much easier.
2) Brutally Honest, In A Loving Way
If they have food in their hair or something in their teeth, you tell them straight away. Make-up smeared? Fly unzipped? Terrible hairstyle? Awful outfit? If he/she's just basically not looking their best you let him/her know. Neither of you would take any criticism too seriously because you know the other just wants you to look your best and not like a complete tool. They say it out of love.
3) You Have No Secrets
You have so much dirt on them, but you'd never share it because they know all your dirty little secrets too. Also because you wouldn't dream of ever hurting them. You both trust the other not to share them, which is great because you have an outlet for all your messed up thoughts and actions.
4) You Always Have Each Other's Back
Whether it's a creepy guy on the dancefloor or being stood up for a date, you're always there for each other. If they need a favour, you do it no questions asked. You would never cancel on them last minute - except for death or extreme illness - but you would cancel plans if they needed you. They are your number one person, you're closer than family.
5) You Support & Challenge The Other: You Don't Compete
You want them to succeed in life and they want the same for you. You support each other's dreams and encourage them to take chances and go for ambitious internships or jobs. You don't get jealous when they do succeed (how could they not with your encouragement?) you are too proud of them to be envious. Plus, now you get to celebrate!
6) You Share Everything Except Lovers
Their wardrobe is basically your second wardrobe. The only rule is that you can't wear something they've just purchased. You share food, drinks, rounds at the bar, split tabs, bags shoes, clothes, anything and everything. Except boyfriends, ex-boyfriends and potential boyfriends. You could both obsess over the same person, but if they start to pay more attention to one of you the other backs off, or sometimes you both will, because no dude is getting between the two of you.
7) You Know Their Love Life History In Deep Detail
From their first kiss, to the night they lost their virginity, to their last drunken one night stand. You both know nearly every single detail of your love lives. Of course, if it's something very personal that concerns your current partner, you probably wouldn't tell your bestie, you've got to have some boundaries. But for the most part they know everything - ex-boyfriends beware.
8) Regardless Of Your Relationship Status, You Will Act As Wingwoman If Needed
So your bestie is on the pull and they need some backup. Maybe they need you to flirt or just chat with some guy's friend so they can pull him away. Regardless of whether you are in a relationship or single if they need you to schmooze, you schmooze. Hey, you might get some free drinks out of it.
9) Try New Things Together
From new diet fads to exercise fads, to new drinks and new movies. You love doing new things together. Plus, if you do try some new diet together you can both either encourage the other to keep it going or both quit together, which is basically like following through with it.
10) Can Communicate With Looks
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, well you and your BFF can have entire conversations complete with hand gestures, with one simple significant look. Of course, these are also fleshed out with sneaky Facebook messages and SnapChats. But you don't need words, not anymore.
11) A Week Isn't Complete Without A Weekly Catch Up & Bitching Session
The best way to end your week is to hang out with your bestie in sweatpants or pjs with a cup of tea and a big gossip session. The second best way is cocktails and a big girls night out. The benefit of the more intimate tea and catch up is that you can bitch openly and unashamedly about anybody, whereas in the bar other people can hear and you have to dress up and eugh effort.
