12 Things You Remember If You Were A Kid In The 00s

The 00s was a time before decent mobile phones, high speed internet and let's face it, fashion sense. If you were lucky enough to be a 00s kid, there are certain elements of your childhood that can be summed up with certain objects, TV shows and games – fact.

1. Bed canopies

Your childhood room wouldn’t have been complete without a decorative canopy hanging over your bed. I mean I know they were pretty fab but they did become a bit questionable when they fell down on you in the middle of the night. Yeah, not sure if anyone thought about the potentially dangerous consequences of that one.

2. Lava Lamps

Possibly even cooler than the bed canopy, a lava lamp was essential to your room in the 2000s. Let’s be honest, you kind of wish you hung on to that one and didn’t throw it out in an angsty teen rage.

3. Tamagotchis

Instead of sneaking your phone into class, you snuck in your Tamagotchi. It was always a scandalous moment when someone got theirs confiscated, and it was touch and go there for a while whether or not the Tamagotchi would survive the night without them.

4. Nintendo DS'

Having a Nintendo DS was the pride of your life. You’d connect games like Animal Crossing and Nintendogs to your friends’ ones and it would be the best thing ever.
(RIP to all those Nintendogs left good for nothing when the teen years kicked in).

5. Scoubido Strings

There was always that one person in your class who was basically a walking factory for making them into necklaces and key chains for your wheelie school bag, and you were always extremely thankful to them.

6. You owned a Motorola Razr

As a kid in the 2000s, you weren’t completely left out of the tech revolution, and if you were lucky enough to convince your parents to buy one of these, you were probably envied by a lot of people.

7. The Baby G watch

Before the act of wearing watches was somewhat abandoned in favour of using your phone, Baby G watches were all the rage for Noughties’ children. These bulky watches were definitely a fashion statement more than anything.

8. Heelys

Were you really cool in the 00s if you didn’t wear Heelys? You’d see kids wheeling around without a care in the world. If you were a slightly unbalanced kid, Heelys may have been the source of a lot of pain. But a lot of coolness too. So, you know, you win some, you lose some.

9. Abercrombie & Fitch anything

All the popular kids wore Abercrombie, in particular their t-shirts and zippies. Seeing as you could only really import it from America, it just showed how slick your Dad’s job was if he could bring you back loads of Abercrombie from his business trip. You might have even gotten some Juicy Couture as well, if you were lucky.
