New Study Finds Remarkable Difference From 2011 In Irish Students' Hopes For Future

A whopping 73% of students have said they expect to find work in Ireland when they finish college compared to just 39% in 2011 at the the height of the recession, according to a new survey published by the The Credit Union.

Less than a third of students have also said they expect to have to emigrate to find work compared with a huge 75% in 2011. While confidence levels have improved and the outlook for 2017 is largely optimistic the attitude towards college-related finances has stayed the same with many students struggling to cope with the pressure of costs.

Many students are forced to work throughout college just to make ends meet with almost of a quarter of students who work in 2017 saying they are skipping lectures to do so. With accommodation being a major source of concern for students in 2017 with rental costs being an issue for many students.

68% of students said they were worried that they might not be able to find accommodation with rental costs being very high.

A new study from Daft.ie revealed that rent prices in Dublin are now 20% higher than their peak in the Celtic Tiger with the average price for a house to rent at €1,700.
