In an open letter posted across his social media, Zayn Malik has revealed the reason behind reasons his cancelled appearance at London’s Capital Summertime Ball, despite having already flown into the capital to perform.
In the note he bravely addresses anxiety and mental health issues he has been suffering from. Writing, “My anxiety that has haunted me throughout the last few months around live performances has gotten the better of me... With the magnitude of the event, I have suffered the worst anxiety of my career.”
The singer then apologises to his fans for pulling out of the gig and promises to make it up to them. Considering that Zayn is usually so private while in the public eye, this is a powerful statement and a very positive one for any of us who have struggled or are struggling with anxiety or depression. Mental health issues among young men is something which needs to be talked about more, with this group struggling in silence the most. Mental health shouldn't ever be taboo, this letter will hopefully get people talking and help to bring this topic into everyday conversation. Well done Zayn!
